To donate or not to donate...

Over the last couple of  years, I have been asked to donate a piece or class to local fundraisers &
I have always said yes.

The other day, I was working at the local gallery & I asked one of the other artists there if she'd ever donated her work to fundraising events & she said no. She said that she feels that "auctions de-value the work. That pieces never go for what they are worth."

I found this perception interesting & while I agree with her point about pieces never selling for what we, the artists, feel they are worth; I feel that the opportunity to gain exposure for my art is of greater value than the actual sales price of my donated work.
I think that if people are excited enough to bid against each other for one of my pieces, even for a fraction of the price, then maybe they will contact me for a commissioned piece or a class in the future.

Here are just a few pieces I have donated in the past:
2015
Donating to Larkspur Elementary School's Boot Scootin' Boogie on May 2, 2015
2014
Donated to Bradley International Elementary School Auction
Donated to The Stars for Douglas County Gala
2013
Donated to Bradley International Elementary School's Auction
Donated to Larkspur Elementary School's Boot Scootin' Boogie
I love to share my passion with others & will continue to donate pieces &
classes for as long as I am able to do so!
